Jakarta to Host Formula E in 2020

Jakarta will host the Formula E in 2020 and continue to make various preparations to succeed the eco-friendly car race.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo said that the track survey has been done related to the track that will be used for the world electric car (E-Prix) race on July 8.

"Jakarta Provincial Government proposes two options for track. The two tracks are still in the vicinity of Monas," he expressed, Tuesday (7/16).

The first track will start from Jalan Pelataran Merdeka (Silang Monas) - Jalan MI Ridwan Rais - Tugu Tani - Jalan MI Ridwan Rais - Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan - Antara Guesthouse - United State Embassy -Silang Monas.

As for the second track will start from South Gate of Silang Monas - behind Gambir - Jalan MI Ridwan Rais - Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan - Patung Kuda Roundabout - South Gate of Silang Monas. 

His party is still awaiting a decision from the organizers of Formula E regarding which routes to use.

"After that we'll talk about budget for the event," he told.

He explained that Formula E is an international electric-car racing event whereby its race tracks use the highway.

Via Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan's social media account, it is the first electric car-racing event in the world that aims to introduce electric cars and reduce carbon emissions through similar Formula 1 races, it is carried out on the inner city road.

Based on the initial review of this plan, Jakarta E-Prix potentially brings economic benefits in the capital worth £ 78 million. It is estimated that 35 thousand spectators will produce economic transactions of around £ 1.6 million during the E-Prix in the case of the consumption, transportation and accommodation industries.

It will also improve tourism sector. The total value of media coverage about Jakarta is equivalent to £ 15 million.

"Jakarta will be in the spotlight of the world, foreign media coverage echoes the name of Jakarta, Indonesia to the world community. We are in line with other megapolitan developed cities. InsyaAllah, all preparations can run smoothly," he stated.
